The St. Dominic boys’ basketball teams have all had successful seasons this year. With a record of 9-9 and heading into the end of the season, the boys varsity team is looking to finish strong for the best possible seed in districts.

With new head coach Vincent Russell leading the team, the boys have been and still are working to their limits and pushing each other to do the best they can.

“They have made us work twice as hard as we were before. They have put in many new plays to help us succeed,” said forward sophomore Keith Beckmann.

The team has been victorious in some great games this season with wins over teams such as Holt, JFK and University City. Recently they played against Lutheran St. Charles. After the Crusaders overcame an 11-point difference, the game was sent into overtime and St. Dominic came out on top with the win with a score of 61-58.

The JV team, with a winning record, has also been playing extremely well. They are coached by Brian Walker, a great leader who is readying the players for the varsity level. The JV team recently finished first in a tournament at Orchard Farm High School, defeating Fort Zumwalt West in the championship. The freshman team is doing stellar this year, winning almost all of their games.

This year, the varsity team has been led by seniors Luke Niggemeier, Matt Hagan and Tyler Gamby. They are inspiring leaders both on and off the court, and are always striving to be their best.

“They have taught me and all the other players many things, like how to make moves and act on the court. They have been inspirational,” said Beckmann.

The varsity boys basketball team is hoping to end the season with wins against rival schools Borgia and Duchesne. The boys play against Duchesne at home on February 5. Also, they play against Borgia at home on February 12. You won’t want to miss these games, so make sure to go cheer on our fellow Crusaders!
