The girls swim team has been making waves this season with a 12-3 record. The swim team has improved significantly from last season and they hope to continue to progress as a team.

The Lady Crusaders swim team was given a fresh start this season welcoming a new coach, Ms. Jacqueline Moutray, and multiple new swimmers. Sore muscles and the smell of chlorine followed the swimmers around for weeks as they trained for a tough season. The hard work put in was definitely beneficial as many swimmers have improved from day one.

“As a team, we worked in and outside of the pool to train. The training was hard at first but it was worth it. I can swim longer distances and my times have gotten better since the beginning of the season,” said junior Lindley Schwartz.

Coach Moutray and her swimmers have blown the competition out of the water. In the 2015 season, our SDHS swimmers lost to LHS by 54 and to Duchesne by 43. This season the swimmers made a comeback, losing to LHS by only 8 points and beating our beloved rival Duchesne by 42 points! Two of our Lady Crusader swimmers have also qualified for the state competition. Sophomore Sarah Nelson has qualified for four state events: the 50 fly, 200 IM, 50 fly and 100 free. Junior Alexis Liszewski qualified for the 50 freestyle.

“It felt amazing to qualify because it wasn’t an easy thing to do and my team supported me through it all,” said Liszewski.

As the season comes to an end, it’s safe to say that the swimmers have proved this will be one to remember. We wish good luck to Nelson and Liszewski as they prepare for the state competition and congratulate Coach Moutray and her swimmers for their comeback season!
