Fashion Forward Tips and Trends

It is officially the new year, which means that new trends are sure to arise. Since it is only January, it is too early to determine what some of the major fashion trends of 2016 might be; however, with the help of the Internet and fashion magazines, I can make these three predictions.

  1. The Scrunchie

Worn by celebrities such as Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, the scrunchie is making a quick comeback due to the growing popularity of the ’90s fashion trends.

How to style: Scrunchies can be worn several ways by numerous hair types. For long hair, gather your hair up in a high pony and add a scrunchie to secure it. If you have short hair like me, the traditional half-up half-down looks great when a scrunchie is added.

  1. Slip-On Sandalsimage

I personally am very excited about the possible slip-on sandal trend. I currently own two pairs of slip-on sandals from two popular brands: Pali and Birkenstock. Slip-on sandals were popular years ago when I was a kid and I remember owning several pairs. Nowadays, the sandals come in a variety of brands, styles and colors, making the shoe highly praised by many.

How to style: Predominately a spring or summer shoe, the sandal can be worn a few different ways. For a casual yet chic look, throw on a pair of joggers, a comfortable t-shirt and your slip-on sandals. To make the outfit look more put together, jeans and a structured jacket, such as a fitted blazer or leather jacket, is the way to go.

  1. Denimimage

Denim has always been an iconic fashion statement, but throughout the years it has evolved into so much more than the original jean pants or jacket. It can now be seen in the form of bags, skirts, shirts, etc.

How to style: During the warmer months, skirts, shorts and dresses are a fashionable choice. For the colder months, denim pants and heavy jackets are a necessity. For a bold look, try combining a light-wash denim shirt with a dark-wash pair of jeans for an all denim ensemble.

Exploring and finding new trends can be fun; however, fashion is not just about what is hot at the moment. Fashion is really about being yourself and expressing who you are, so just remember to have fun with it and wear what makes you comfortable!
