Lady Crusaders Dive Into the New Season
The St. Dominic girls swim team is anxious to get back in the water. Ms. Jacquie Moutray, the new swim coach, is hoping to get her team more comfortable in the water and more confident in their athletic abilities. Last year, the two hard-working swimmers Sarah Nelson and Alexis Liszewski advanced to state and the team dreams of making it that far again this season.
The team is practicing hard and giving it all they have in order to excel in the upcoming season. They total four hours of pool time each week at the Rec-Plex, where they practice diving, flip turns and strokes. When they aren’t swimming, the girls are working hard in the weight room on Fridays after school. The team is also going to start yoga sessions to loosen their muscles. Their hard work has brought the girls closer together as both friends and teammates. This bond will help them to improve throughout the season.
“This year we have gotten so close already as a team and we are just a couple weeks in. I’m really excited for our team bonding events and to get to know even more about the girls this season,” said sophomore Sophie Gildehaus.
Many of the swimmers on the team are new to the St. Dominic swim team this year. Coach Moutray has been working hard to help the newcomers learn new techniques and perfect their turns and strokes.
“Since a lot of my girls are still pretty new to swimming, right now we really have been focusing on flip turns. I at least have everybody attempting to do flip turns. Sometimes they’re pretty, sometimes they’re not, but at least they’re attempting,” said Coach Moutray.
The team is excited to show off their skills, so come and support the girls at their upcoming meets throughout the season. Their invitational is January 9 at the Rec-Plex at 9:00 A.M.
