Take Me Out to the Ball Game
The varsity lady Crusaders softball team has done it again, finishing their season with a 20-8 record! With both highs and lows, the girls managed to pull off a great season.
The team was sadly knocked out by Warrenton in the final game of the season, but had a six-win streak and two five-win streaks during the season, making their school and coach proud.
“I was very proud of the team in that we had a pretty serious injury that affected our team and we overcame that. There were also times in varsity where we were behind and we came back and ended up winning the game,” said Coach Duncan.
All thirteen players contributed greatly to each win. Some highlight stats include senior Megan Schellert who finished off the season with a batting average of .533 and junior Katy Kruse who finished with 58 RBIs. Senior Jenna Wilmes finished off the season with 65 assists and 128 outs in the field. Senior Anna Hermann faced a total of 586 batters while pitching and only gave up 138 hits.
We wish good luck to the five seniors leaving this year: #1 Trisha Playle, #5 Anna Hermann, #7 Jenna Wilmes, #14 Chaney Pollard and #15 Megan Schellert. Coach Duncan also wishes the seniors the best of luck.
“They are all outstanding young ladies and I wish the very best for them in whatever they do. I know that all five of them will accomplish whatever they set out to do,” said Coach Duncan.
The softball girls impressed us again this season and we look forward to seeing them next year!
