Behind the Scenes of Homecoming
The highly anticipated homecoming dance happened very quickly! A variety of circus decorations and colorful dresses filled the gym on Saturday, September 26. It was an exciting, but stressful time of the year for St. Dominic. What many people do not realize is how much work goes into planning Homecoming.
As the dance approached, organizers of the event became extremely busy. Behind the scenes, STUCO and class cabinet had been planning Homecoming for months. Preparations started all the way back in June, and last-minute details were finished on the day of the big dance.
“Planning Homecoming has kind of been like a roller coaster. It would be going really well and then all of a sudden we realized that we still needed a little bit more help,” said Ms. Thomas, moderator of STUCO. “All in all everyone has been positive and very helpful. They have been working together very well.”
Helen Wilmes and Brady Young, juniors on STUCO, experienced firsthand how much work is put into the dance. The theme, decorations and music were all important to a successful homecoming dance.
“STUCO brainstormed a bunch of ideas for a theme and then narrowed it down. There was a list with around ten themes on it. We all agreed on ‘Under the Big Top,'” said Wilmes.
After the theme was decided on, they started planning for the dance.
“A lot of planning goes into Homecoming. Each grade level in STUCO had a different job. Seniors were in charge of decorations. Juniors took care of the court. Sophomores helped plan spirit week. Class cabinet sold tickets with us. Everyone had a different job to do,” said Young.
STUCO and class cabinet spent Friday evening and Saturday morning setting up. Although Homecoming was a lot of work, members of STUCO and cabinet enjoyed preparing everything.
“It’s been fun thinking of different ideas for ways we could show the theme at the dance. Seeing it all come together has been great,” said senior Anna Sprehe, a class cabinet member.
The time STUCO and class cabinet spent prepping for the dance was well worth it! All the long hours and effort put into Homecoming made it special. The dance was a success, thanks to all of the hard work behind the scenes!
