With graduation right around the corner, Senior Night for all fall sports have officially begun. Every year, field hockey has new activities, gifts, and teams to play on senior night. Although there is still a game to play on Senior Night, a night of fun gives the girls a rush like no other to win the game.
The most talked about part of the night is the Senior Night signs the girls make. The girls create a poster board with their name, number, position, childhood pictures, and current pictures of themselves.
“I love doing Senior Night posters because you get to show off your hard work throughout the years and how far you have come. I was very excited to put that I am captain on my poster,” senior Gwenny Roberts said.
Field hockey has been a huge sensation for teens. It is a new sport where everyone comes together at St. Dominic because most of the girls did not play before high school. It can be very hard to fit in during high school and this sport gives them a sort of family.
“I love the community I have built from field hockey, I can still remember the day we all met. We were so nervous to look stupid until we realized most of us were in the same boat,” senior Sam Liszewski said.
When it comes to under classmen during Senior Night, they have fun as well. It is nice for them to look up to the seniors and see what their future is going to be while also still being involved in the game and alongside with the seniors during their fun activities.
“I love watching what I will be doing next year. I also enjoy celebrating the seniors because they are like older siblings to us. It is very nice to see them cared for while playing alongside them as well” junior Jessie James said.
Field hockey’s Senior Night is expected to be groundbreaking every year and the team believes they should be equally considerate each year. The team feels extremely close to one another and there is no feeling better in high school than belonging and community.
