St. Dominic has excitedly announced the launch of its new trade program for the 2025-2026 school year. This innovative program will offer courses in engineering, biomedical sciences, business, and more, with a special emphasis on building trades. The Building Trades curriculum will be available to juniors and seniors as a Practical Art elective, featuring hands-on construction trades coursework in four core areas: carpentry, electrical, plumbing/pipefitting, and HVAC.
These classes are designed as semester-long courses offered in two-block periods, each lasting 160 minutes. This extended class time will allow the motivated students to engage with the material and gain practical, in-depth experience in their chosen trade.
Students who are wanting to get a head start can enroll in the class, Construction Innovation, this coming fall. Registration for this class, along with other courses, will begin on February 3rd. Specialized courses in carpentry and electrical will be available starting in the Spring of 2026, while individual courses in HVAC and plumbing/pipefitting will be introduced later during the 2026-2027 school year.
The introduction of this program comes in response to a known and growing demand from the community of St. Dominic. Many have long advocated for a curriculum that prepares students for the workforce with practical skills. The community has recognized the importance of providing students with high demand career paths that do not necessarily require a traditional four-year college degree. By offering these trade courses, St. Dominic aims to meet this need and support the future community by producing skilled, dedicated, and educated tradesmen ready to enter the workforce.
St. Dominic never slows down the stride to give the brightest opportunities to its students. After implementing this new curriculum, St. Dominic will become one of the very few catholic, coed high schools to offer this type of education on campus. However, this is not the only way St. Dominic is making history. The property which will facilitate The Building Trades program was donated to the school by an anonymous buyer. This buyer purchased the property for over 2.4 million dollars, making this donation the biggest donation in the history of the school.
