As the winter sets in, the St. Dominic Crusader Players prepare to warm hearts and thrill audiences with its current production, “The Discount of Monte Cristo” With heavy inspiration from the book The Count Monte Cristo, this play tells the story of a wrongfully imprisoned man who, with the help of pirates, goes on a quest to get revenge on three deceitful men who ruined his life.
St. Dominic performing arts takes an opportunity every winter to include our future crusaders and put on a show on the stage for family and friends. This is also a great way for younger kids to showcase their talents before entering high school.
“I have loved working with these kiddos. They truly impress me every time with their talents! Seeing such talented and passionate young people work so hard on this really warms my heart.” said theater director Mrs. Hobbs.
The winter play is a great way for others to showcase their talents. For example, the director at St. Dominic, Mrs. Hobbs, uses this show as a way to show off her writing skills! Mrs. Hobbs has always had a love for writing plays, she even picks another special feature to help her write the entire play. This year, she has selected senior Cameron Schwent. Both the creative minds worked tirelessly to put together an exciting plot with hilarious punch lines or dramatic moments for everyone to enjoy.
“Not only do I get to live out my dreams of writing plays, but I get to share it with Cameron. We have had so much fun putting this show together!” stated Hobbs.
This show is much anticipated by the St. Dominic community, however there are another two very special members of the community who are helping make this show a great success. These girls are senior Jill Johnson and senior Ella Schmitz. These two students are taking on a very important role in this show, as they are student directors.
“Ella and I share our responsibilities as assistant directors, like helping with casting, blocking scenes, and giving notes. We also just help the crew with anything they need backstage or in prep for the show.” said Johnson.
The Discount of Monte Cristo is going to be an amazing show! If you love to laugh and enjoy quality comedy, come by the Performing Arts Center on February 7-9 to see the work of these incessantly talented students and staff. Tickets will be free for St. Dominic students, you would not want to miss this.
