As Missouri usually does in the winter season it has some crazy weather. This past week. Just last week a huge snowfall came, making most of the midwest a winter blizzard. With cold weather and not being able to leave the house, our Crusaders had three e-learning days. From sleeping in to simply admiring the beauty of the snow, there was something for everyone to do on their “days off.”
Even though the Crusaders were not on campus for four days, all of St. Dominic’s custodial staff and snow clearing services worked extremely hard to get the parking lots and sidewalks ready for everyone to return back to school.
“The conditions of major and side roads remained very poor in many areas,” President Mr. Welby said.
Safety is the number one concern for St. Dominic. With every road being filled with over eight inches of snow and ice it made travel very difficult and dangerous for everyone at St. Dominic. MoDOT, or the Missouri Department of Transportation, has been working very long hours to make sure every road was clear and safe enough to return to driving on.
“The time I spent at home during our’“snow days’, I spent most of it sleeping. I was able to stay up and sleep a lot of the last four days,” senior Bella Gerberding said.
Most of our Crusaders spent those extra couples days off making sure they got some extra sleep. With being on Winter Break for the past two weeks and a couple of extra days off of school, it was the perfect time for the Crusaders to rest and recharge before heading back for the second semester.
“I spent those extra couple of days off doing my e-learning day assignments as well as shoveling my driveway so my dad and I could get out,” senior Olivia Orr said.
Some of our other Crusaders decided it would be a great time to do some of their e-learning assignments but also get out of the house and help shovel. With the amount of snowfall that just came through lots of our Crusaders got out over the past three days shoveling lots of snow.
“During my snow days I spent time laying in my bed, but I also got out and played in the snow with my siblings,” sophomore Alia Warren said.
Even though resting and recharging is great, so is spending quality time with your family. Many of the Crusaders decided to have some fun and make snow angels or snowmen, have snowball fights or go sledding.
Snow days bring lots of different challenges, like not going to school and being stuck in the house, but they also bring lots of fun — which most of our Crusaders had. As second semester is just staying, make sure you continue to work hard for the next four months.
