The St. Dominic Annual Christmas basketball tournament will take place over Christmas break. All teams will compete starting December 26th through the 28th. This year, over 16 teams, eight girls and eight boys, will join the Crusaders to compete for the championship title. Some of the teams competing are North Point, Sikeston, Timberland and Holt high school.
Dominic’s varsity girls team plays first against St. Charles West on December 26th at 4:00 PM.
This year, Dominic’s girls team is led by seniors Madison Lynch and Lucy Ryan. Over the past four years, these girls have gained experience through each game and know what it takes to win. Through the seniors’ leadership and experience the girls are ready to face any challenges that come their way.
“I’m most excited to play in front of alumni who come back and to try to win for my last year playing this tournament. I always love getting out of the house around Christmas and playing with my teammates,” senior Lucy Ryan said.
In the past, the Lutheran girls basketball team has swept the competition, easily winning games. However, Lutheran decided not to join the tournament this year. That being said, it creates the perfect opportunity for the varsity girls team to make a run for the trophy. The girls have a record of 1-0 and are ready to fight till the end.
Like the girl’s team, the boy’s current record foreshadows a tournament trophy. Currently, they hold a record of 0-1 and hope to expand their wins in the upcoming tournament. Although their team is still young, they hope to see a large amount of improvement over the winter season.
Dominic’s boys team begins their competition with a match against Lift for Life. This school is a new addition to the tournament, but is sure to bring the heat. While Dominic is ranked as a #4 seed, Lift for Life trails right behind them as a #5. This match-up takes place on the 26th, at 7:00 pm.
“I’m looking forward to playing with my teammates against really good basketball teams. I also look forward to being able to play in front of my family and the student section,” senior Troy Perhacs said.
While it might be Christmas break, the fun at St. Dominic never ends. This is a perfect time to get together with your friends, and support your Crusader basketball team. The Hoff Heating and Cooling tournament is a must-see and is sure to stir-up fun at St. Dominic.
