The newest addition to the clubs of St. Dominic is the German club. This club is planning to host its first meeting on Wednesday, November 20th.
Many students are interested in this club, and plan to attend the meetings and learn more about the German language and culture. Although, many St. Dominic students already speak the language and have many family members from Germany and surrounding areas.
“I’m very excited about this club starting because I speak German and am excited to find people who share the same love for German,” junior Gus Stonebargar said.
The teacher in charge of the club is Mrs. Outman. She took German in college and attained a level C1 in the language, meaning she can speak conversationally. She additionally lived in Luxembourg, Germany with a host family to help her study the language while being fully immersed in it.
“I’m most excited about connecting students that have similar interests and knowledge! Hopefully, some students interested in learning a new language will meet one another, and some students that already have a background in the German language will have a chance to speak! Also, I’m excited about having an excuse to buy more German chocolate,” literature teacher Mrs. Outman said.
Several students that have never even heard the language also plan on attending the meeting to find out more about a different language and culture they haven’t come in contact with before. On the other hand, some students have had experience with the culture and language and want to learn more so they can feel more connected with their families culture and language.
“I have some German family members but I don’t know the language, and I think this is a great opportunity to learn more about my family’s culture,” ” junior John Schultz said.
This club plans to meet on Wednesdays during empower hour. Make sure to check out this club if you are interested in the German language or if you would like to learn more about others, or your own culture.
