Since the beginning of the school year, there has been lots of construction around St. Dominic. After last year’s hail storm, the St. Dominic roof took a beating and was in desperate need of repairs. Not only is the roof being worked on, the stadium parking lot/softball field renovations just started as well.
The first bit of the construction started over the summer with the reconstruction of the stadium parking lot. The parking lot essentially got a face lift as it was doubled in size and got a new way to enter and exit.
“We are in desperate need of parking to meet our student population, and the stadium has always been very limited with parking. So the new parking lot allows us to service our students during the day and our families in the evenings,” President Jim Welby said.
The talk of last year was the new additions to the Dominic campus. St. Dominic decided it was time to change up the campus a little, by adding a new parking lot and also fixing up the softball/baseball field.
“The softball/baseball stadium is long, long overdue. The one athletic facility that has not been a superior facility compared to other high schools has been our softball field and our baseball field. Now we will have the best softball/baseball stadium in the area, and it won’t even be close,” Welby said.
After the unexpected hail storm that hit Dominic in March, it did a significant amount of damage to the roof. Even though the effects are not noticeable, it left many skylights broken, dents in the building and overall just time to be revamped.
“The roof construction will last at least until March provided we have a light winter. If not it will go later into the spring. The softball/baseball stadium will be completed in early March for the start of baseball season,” Welby said.
Unfortunately, this year’s softball seniors did not get to enjoy the new and improved field. As the year goes on, it’s very likely that the baseball team will get to play on the new Crusader field coming this March for the start of baseball season. With this new field it will provide the best outcome for future Crusaders to come.
“Our families have grown to expect the very best from St. Dominic, and this is just another way we can help provide the very best for our students. This project will enhance our athletic facilities for generations,” Welby said.
With all of these new improvements, the St. Dominic campus will be the best of the best. Since this construction is an ongoing process, different outside routes are temporarily blocked off so make sure to keep an eye out for informational emails regarding the subject.
