St. Dominic athletics are always busy and performing at the highest level. Last week, both softball and girls golf put in the work during their annual senior nights.
To start off, the golf team went head to head against St. Francis Borgia rising above and securing the win 150-204. During the match, the girls showed determination and consistency throughout, with senior Annabelle Bush being named the match medalist. Other seniors being celebrated were Claire Li and Sasha Oberhill, who also made it quite a game to watch.
“I definitely think I grew a lot as a person and a golfer in my four years. I learned to control my emotions a lot better through my metal golf game. I’ve also learned that kindness and courteousness are good characteristics to have in life and to use when interacting with people anywhere you go,” senior Sasha Oberhill said.
Oberhill made birdies on her first and seventh holes. Reflecting over her golf career and participating in Dominic’s program, Oberhill made it clear that her time here has been a time she’s treasured. From joining the team freshman year and being unsure that golf was the right fit for her, Li finished out her season strong with her favorite part being able to play with fellow friends.
“The highlight of the night was getting to golf with Sasha and with the rest of the team one last time on our home course. Also being able to play relatively well for myself and St. Dominic was something I’ll never forget,” Li said.
On the home turf, softball competed against Incarnate Word Academy, toppling their opponent 13-3. Along with the golf seniors, softball seniors Kelsey Kunz, Angie Williams, and Emma Yates were all celebrated last Friday night for all of their accomplishments throughout the season.
The game was action packed with Kunz dominating the circle bringing her to her eighth win of the season. Alongside Kunz’s amazing athleticism, Williams and Yates scored two runs apiece, further advancing their team towards victory. Taking time to talk about their respective careers with St. Dominic, Coach Duncan made sure to show appreciation for the seniors.
“These seniors have done a remarkable job on and off the field when it comes to leadership. They will be greatly missed,” Coach Duncan said.
Next year there will be voids left where such revered and respected women once stood. While they are still with us, however, St. Dominic will recognize and appreciate the many talents that walk our halls among several different teams and communities.
