Many St. Dominic students choose to visit, apply to, and attend Mizzou over several other similar colleges in the area. Last school year, over 30% of St. Dominic’s class of 2024 went to Mizzou.
The reasons for why St. Dominic students want to go to Mizzou vary. Some of these reasons include that it is close to home, many people adore their football team, a lot of parents attended Mizzou previously, it has many opportunities, and many of their friends also plan to attend Mizzou.
“I want to go to Mizzou because it is close to home and I like their football program”, junior Nollan Malloy said.
Opinions also vary on Mizzou’s campus, clubs, programs, and extracurricular activities they offer, with some students stating they love the campus and some are disinterested in it. Mizzou also offers many opportunities like their military programs, nursing program, business programs, and many more.
“Many St. Dominic students choose Mizzou because they want a large in-state school with a wide variety of majors and is close to home. Our students are also excited to be at a university with D1 sports, a vibrant social scene and the ability to continue to deepen their faith. The Newman Center on Mizzou’s campus is extremely strong and many of our students find becoming involved in that is a great way to make Columbia feel like home.”,St. Dominic guidance counselor Mrs. Nero said.
However, a select few students of St. Dominic do not want to attend Mizzou because of a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons could be due to how large the school has become, wanting to steer clear of huge lecture halls and excessive partying.
“I don’t want to attend Mizzou because I want to go out of state and the campus just didn’t really stick out to me”, St Dominic Junior Katarina Magill said.
Previous Mizzou students can also impact the decision of St. Dominic students to attend Mizzou. Several great reviews have come from Mizzou alumni, along with a few not-so-great reviews of Mizzou.
“While I enjoyed my experience as a student at Mizzou, everyone needs to make the best decision that fits what they are looking for in a college in terms of degree programs, internship opportunities, location, cost and many other factors that come into play when making such an important decision in your life.”, College guidance counselor Mr. Markway said when asked if he would recommend Mizzou.
Mizzou will visit the St. Dominic campus on Thursday, October 3rd during empower hour. Make sure to check out this event to find out more information about Mizzou.
