As St. Dominic goes deeper into the fall season, our sports teams have been working hard to kick off their seasons right. The coaches and the athletes have lots of goals set for this season and are very excited.
The Varsity football team started out their season securing a win versus St. Charles West last Friday. The game ended in a 41-6 victory, thanks to the team’s hard work. Varsity plays again this Friday versus Normandy at 7pm.
“I’m excited to see how we improve as the season goes on. We have a lot of new starters that are replacing a large senior class from 2023, so it’s good to see both the seniors and young players fill those roles and get better each week,” head coach Mr. Markway said.
Field Hockey kicked it into gear by winning their first game versus Kirkwood 2-1. With the new edition of a goalie specialty coach, the team is planning on doing great things this year. They are fired up and ready to have a great season.
“My favorite thing about field hockey is the community and being around my teammates for the whole season,” said Junior Gwenny Roberts.
St. Dominic’s cross country runners have been working hard training for this season. Both boys and girls have their first meet coming up and are pumped to compete.
“My goal this season is to get stronger as an athlete and I look forward to spending time with all my friends on the team,” said Junior Molly Leipholtz.
The girls’ tennis team are hustling on the court and have had a great turnout so far. The team won their first meet versus Lutheran St. Charles 3-2. Congratulate these ladies and wish them luck on the rest of their season.
“ I can’t wait to get closer with my teammates and work on getting better as an athlete— and hopefully win some more meets,” said Junior Delaney Wulkopf.
As the girls’ softball team gets excited for the season by winning their first game 11-6, they also make school history. St. Dominic has never had lights out on the softball field, but with the new renovations the ladies can finally play in the dark! Good luck ladies!
