The Saint Dominic Crusaders and Saint Charles West Warriors went head to head in game fans
surely won’t be forgetting about anytime soon. The game started off favoring the Warriors, with
Saint Charles putting six points on the board in the first two minutes of the game. Soon after this
an inclement weather warning put a lid on any plans of further play.
Neither team was deterred however, and after a less than brief period of wait both teams came
back onto the field. Saint Dominic clearly was unfazed by the time that had passed, putting
several solid plays into action as soon as they hit the field. This garnered thunderous ovations
from the die-hard football fans who had literally weathered the storm to be able to continue
watching the game.
Good times kept rolling for the Crusaders, continuing through the second half of the game
virtually unopposed and managing several more fantastic touchdown plays. Going the rest of
the night without letting the Warriors put even a single more point on the board for the rest of the
game. In the end, the Crusaders ended the contest with 41 points to their name, with Saint
Charles ending at 6.
Standout moments of the game are easy to pick out, such as Jackson Adler making a spectacle
of the evening, managing two touchdowns and ending the night with over 100 all-purpose yards.
Two breakout stars also emerged in the forms of both Senior Kaynen Simmons and the
aforementioned Chaz Hurston respectively. Simmons, despite never playing a snap of Crusader
Football prior to this year, made his presence known, picking up several of the most
eye-catching plays of the night. On one play, it took half of the Warriors defense just to put a
stop to one of his dominant runs.
Hurston, had the third highest amount of all-purpose yards and a touchdown to his name by
night’s end as a sophomore, showing that Saint Dominic’s football team will have established
talent well after this year. Finally, Jaxsun Nixon showed his defensive prowess leading the team
in most tackles by a single team member at five.
Our football program has never been one to disappoint, but if this first game is any indication
what the Crusaders are capable of, every team in the division has been put on notice.
