St. Dominic Crusader football team brought the fight to the St. Charles Pirates, Orchard Farm Eagles, and Valle Catholic Warriors this past Friday August 23rd. Each match was a thrill, and demonstrated a lot of the best qualities for many of our men on the field.
Facing off against the Pirates for the first match of the evening, the Crusaders made their presence known. One of the Crusaders’ shining players during their offensive drives was junior Jackson Adler, whose speed went unmatched in several of his best drives. Adler’s presence was vital and displayed strong athleticism advancing him to the end zone. Even after switching to defense, the Crusaders continued their highlight reel of a scrimmage; with Saint Charles’ first drive being put to a swift end by senior Ethan Bolinger. Bolinger came to play, and the impact of his tackle for loss echoed throughout the stadium, earning quite a pop from Crusader fans in attendance.
Following a clear showing of athleticism, the Crusaders continued to dominate several aspects of the evening in their match against Orchard Farm. Junior quarterbacks Brennan Czeschin and Chase Spurgeon both spent time on the field and showcased expert leadership and offensive prowess. Complementing work was put in by sophomore wide receiver Coleman Murchison and junior running backs Jackson Adler and Mario Mirabile. However, the action did not stop there.
With brothers, junior Benji and senior Bobby Boss both putting up solid defensive displays in the forms of both pancakes on the line and strong tackles respectively. Finally the Crusaders faced the Valle Catholic Warriors who proved to be the toughest competition of the night. St. Dominic still put up a strong offensive force, and several more great run plays by Mirabile.
In the end, it was a jamboree worth celebrating for the varsity football team. Coach Blake Markway spoke after being content that the whole team had gotten their reps in and that the jamboree was exactly what the team needed to move forward. With such a dynamite introduction for this year’s squad, we can only wait and see just what this season holds.
