Since 1948, the Men’s NCAA Hockey playoffs have been a success. The Division One college hockey level is full of talented players from all over, who give it their all to make it to this point in their season. With Michigan winning the first ever title, there is an expectation of rivalry that comes with the price of victory.
The D1 college hockey playoffs are a sixteen single elimination bracket competing for the overall championship. With tournament wins, six teams receive an automatic bid and the other ten are selected. The teams slowly advance into the next round until the final four teams.
This year, the semi finals were hosted in St. Louis, Missouri at Centene Ice Arena in Maryland Heights. The stands were packed with college hockey fans from all over the world who gathered together to express their support. The finals next year will be hosted in St. Louis at the Enterprise Arena where the Blues NHL team plays.
Just this past month, the girls D1 playoffs resulted in a huge win for Ohio State as they defeated the Wisconsin Badgers. The women’s championships were in New Hampshire where they acquired many fans to see Ohio win it all. Ohio’s star player Joy Dunne, was named rookie of the year and is from St. Louis, Missouri. Joy grew up playing hockey for the AAA St. Louis Blues, and also represents Team USA.
The frozen four finals are hosted in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Xcel energy center. The four teams who have made it to the finals are Boston College, Boston University, Denver and Michigan. The rivalry between these teams will make for an exhilarating atmosphere in Minnesota.
