With the end of the school year, comes the search for new leaders ready to take on their journey of leadership. Specifically, this is the time of year where applications have been sent out for Peer Ministry and for HOH. It can be nerve wracking to apply for a leadership position like this, but many fruitful experiences can come from taking on these vast roles.
Peer Ministry is a wonderful opportunity for seniors that are longing to grow as disciples in Christ, while also ministering to others. Peer Ministers lead class retreats, prayer services, and many other faith opportunities. It is a beautiful way to grow in your relationship with Christ. For the process of choosing a Peer Minister, students need to have completed 75 hours of service, a grade point average of 3.0, apply through a document, and then have an interview.
“Peer Ministry is all about discipleship. It is about growing as a disciple and discipling others. The question is, are you someone who has the ability to do both of these? I think that if you are nervous about applying and scared about the amount of people applying, then you should spend time in prayer and ask God through this process because the Lord will not abandon you,” Reverend Patrick Russel said.
Campus Minister, Ms. Schmittgens has done a beautiful job fulfilling her role as Campus Minister. She is such a role model for those wanting to grow their relationship with the Lord, and makes the faith based opportunities happen at St. Dominic. The interview process can be daunting, but there are things to remember before heading into the big interview.
“The biggest thing to remember is that the Lord provides and to trust in the plan that He has. Being a Peer Minister is not a sign of how good your faith is. In the interview, it is best to just be yourself and show your character. Do not be worried because it is just a conservation and remember that God always provides,” Campus Minster Abby Schmittgens said.
Another very important leadership position to apply to is Head of House. With this position comes many responsibilities, as the HOH’s lead the six houses of St. Dominic. They have to have a positive attitude and be able to lead many students. The HOH application process will be similar to Peer Ministry, and will also have an interview for those picked.
“Head of House is a partner role so you can have people that compliment each other. One member can lead more from behind and be more detail oriented, while the other one is more spirited and outgoing. We are looking for someone who is content, can lead, has pride in the house system, and is someone who can accomplish their goals,” Mr. Nathan Tock said.
No matter what, it is always great to apply if you have interest in these leadership positions because you never know what could happen. These positions could teach you so many valuable skills and lessons. They can also help you grow as a person, and to put forth the qualities of being a leader that everyone has somewhere in them.
