Mamma Mia! The musical just arrived at the Fox Theatre, and it has already been drawing in so many people. It was an absolutely amazing show with actors talented beyond belief, a beautiful set, and very catchy songs. I have never seen Mamma Mia! before, so this was a first for me and I could not have been more pleased with this performance.
The show had such a perfect mix of scenes that made me laugh and made me cry. From the very start of the musical, it is so incredibly exhilarating and eye-catching. The actress that portrayed Sophie, played by Alisa Melendez, was the perfect fit and brought so much energy to the show. These performers did so much throughout the show and brought more and more to the stage each scene.
The actress for Donna, Sophie’s mother, played by Christine Sherrill, made the show for me. Most scenes, it felt like she was not even acting, but rather she played the role of a stressed single mother so believably well. The comedy characters of the show, Tanya and Rosie, never failed to put me on the edge of my seat, laughing with every line they had.
The musical numbers were outstanding in every way. Group numbers like, “Money, Money, Money,” “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!,” and “Lay All Your Love On Me” were just an excitement to watch, and the vocals were fantastic. There were so many things to look at during the scene, my eyes were wandering and were constantly moving. The more emotional songs like “Slipping Through my Fingers” and “The Winner Take It All” had everyone tearing up and mezmorized. Mama mia! I couldn’t tell you the amount of chills I had during “Slipping Through My Fingers.”
Not to mention, the end of the musical was basically a concert. Everyone in the audience was up on their feet singing and dancing to “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo.”
Overall, this show was one of the best shows I have ever seen at the Fox Theatre. It was outstanding in every way, and never failed to make me laugh and cry at the same time. I hope everybody gets a chance to go see this show at least once in their life because it is a truly beautiful, captivating performance.
