With every winter, comes the opening of Hidden Valley Ski Resort. Although Missouri does not have mountains like Colorado or the Northeast, Hidden Valley gives people an opportunity to ski and snowboard, in an easier environment to learn. Located in Wildwood, it has 15 different trails to hit the slopes on.
The snow in Hidden Valley is produced by mixing air and water together through monstrous fans. This is why the ski resort never really has a set opening date. Once enough snow is produced, Hidden Valley is ready for its visitors. An opening date of January 19th was announced, but the hours of operations were altered this year. Monday through Wednesday are now open from four to nine.
Not only does Hidden Valley have skiing and snowboarding, but it also has tubing as well. This is a perfect opportunity to bring the whole family along, even if one doesn’t wish to ski or snowboard. In addition, Hidden Valley has many events during the season, including Sunday S’mores, Mountain Mardi Gras, and College ID nights. The nearest event coming up is Dew after Dark which is on select nights in January and February, where one can ski and snowboard under the stars, and try some samples of Mountain Dew.
If one is not too sure how to ski, but wants to learn, Hidden Valley provides lessons including child group lessons, private lessons, adult seasonal programs, child seasonal programs, and adaptive programs for specific ability needs. With the lessons, one can learn from world-class instructors, try out the trails with the instructors, and best of yet, skip the lines.
Like most ski resorts, Hidden Valley provides rentals for skis and snowboards. What’s so cool about this particular ski resort, is that it is extremely hidden. Residents of Missouri would not suspect to see a ski resort because it is in the middle of the Midwest, but once you go down the windy road in Wildwood, it is truly amazing to see the snowy valleys of the resort.
When Hidden Valley is not open in the winter, the multi-acre facility is still used in the summer. It offers a zip line tour across the peaks of the valleys. Some parts of the zip tour are called The Greenhorn Zip, The Gloria Zip, The Expedition Zip, which spans across 2,850 feet, and The Skyline Zip. These four parts of the zip tour guarantee lots of thrill as you zoom across the forest of Wildwood.
Let us hope that this year’s weather permits Hidden Valley to be able to produce enough snow to cover the vast valleys. This ski resort is such an amazing way for beginners to learn the ropes of the course for those who are experienced and would just like to have some fun on the slopes.
