If you know anything about St. Dominic, you know the Duncan family plays a large role in both academics and athletics, throughout the school. Recently, Ms.Darby Duncan rejoined the St. Dominic family. She is also continuing on her family’s legacy and tradition of teaching at St. Dominic.
Currently, Ms. Duncan is student teaching in Mrs. Hayes room, but anticipates her upcoming teaching career.
“I’m looking forward to getting to teach subjects that I am passionate about, and getting to create relationships with students,” Ms. Duncan said.
Although Ms. Duncan is new to teaching, education runs throughout her family. Mr. Duncan, her dad, currently works as a ELA and Journalism teacher here at Dominic, and her Grandma, Mrs. Duncan taught mathematics years ago.
“I think it is awesome to be the third Duncan here. I love that my family is passionate about making a difference in students’ lives, and I am happy to follow in their footsteps,” Ms. Duncan said.
For Duncan, the decision to come back to St. Dominic was easy. To many, and especially the Duncan’s, Dominic is more than a school. To them, it’s a community and even a family. There’s no doubt this helped make Duncan’s decision to come back much easier.
“Personally, I had an amazing experience at St. Dominic. I was able to create real relationships with teachers, staff members, and students, and the school truly felt like a home whenever I was here,” Duncan said.
St. Dominic is also filled with numerous faith opportunities which makes it an even more special place. When deciding to come back to Dominic, Duncan’s faith life had a huge impact on her decision.
“My faith is very important to me, so I want to work in a place that prioritizes religion,” Duncan said.
Apart from her education career, Duncan also helps coach St. Dominic’s cheerleading team. While teaching might be her passion, cheerleading and stunting is a close second, however both passions hold a special place in her heart.
“I was part of the first team of a new sport called STUNT in my college freshman year, and was voted MVP of that team,” Duncan said.
Although Ms. Duncan recently joined the St. Dominic staff, her family’s legacy will continue to shine on through her. Thanks to the Duncan family, Dominic’s future is very bright!
