On the 2023-24 boys basketball team, there are a total of nine seniors, and of the nine, is a player who has been a part of the varsity team since his freshman year. Raymond Butler, number ten, is ready to take on his senior season, and lead his team.
As a senior, Butler understands the importance of providing a good example for his younger teammates. He knows that there is pressure on him to set an example for the team, but he does not let this affect him.
“It feels amazing to be the role model to my younger teammates, it makes me feel like a big brother, and a true leader. I don’t feel any extra pressure at all, I just go out and play my hardest,” Butler said.
Though he feels no pressure, Butler still takes it upon himself to make sure he still performs to the highest of his ability, all while maintaining his high spirits. Butler has taken a new approach to his game this year compared to his last three.
“This year I’m just going out and have fun, because it is a true honor to play this sport. I want to end my last year of St. Dominic basketball on a high note,” Butler said.
The basketball team at St. Dominic has not only shaped Butler to be an excellent player, but has also molded him through years into being a respected person, moving forward past high school.
“This is what I’ve been training for, and waiting for, not only as an athlete, but as an all around person,” Butler said.
High school is not the only thing Butler is thinking about, he also would like to play basketball outside of high school, and go to a university to continue his education.
“I want to play college basketball, but if I don’t go anywhere for basketball, then I will go to a university and study business. I’ve already been accepted into Louisville and Fisk,” Butler said.
The last dance for Raymond Butler has finally arrived, but his closing season has just begun. There are still many accomplishments, trials and triumphs to come for Raymond Butler during his closing season.
