The 2023-2024 girls basketball season is now in full swing, and junior Madison Lynch is just getting started. With this being her second year as a starting varsity player, she aims to make this her best year yet.
As a sophomore, Lynch was a starter on varsity and while all eyes were on her, she didn’t let the pressure get to her. Last year, Lynch led the team in rebounds, points scored, average points per game, and the most amount of steals.
“Sophomore year I was much more comfortable on the court and I was surrounded by some great individuals that gave me the confidence and support I needed to succeed and get better,” Lynch said.
This year, Lynch is projected to have just as good as, or an even better year. She is the current team leader in rebounds, overall points, and field goal percentage.
“This year I’ll take on any role to help the team win. Since last season I put in work to get in great physical shape and really focused on skill work,” Lynch said.
As if her numbers and dedication weren’t impressive enough, Lynch also plays club soccer in the off-season.
“I love both sports so much and couldn’t pick between the two if I had to. Whatever sport I’m playing that day is my favorite,” Lynch said.
For any of those who know Lynch, they would say that she is a very dedicated and disciplined person. She prides herself on her ability to juggle playing two sports while keeping high grades and maintaining a social life.
“My evenings are busy! But I try to stay organized and make sure I take advantage of my nights and weekends so I don’t fall behind in school,” Lynch said.
Lynch has been dreaming of the day she would be a varsity player here at St. Dominic, and is achieving her dreams every time she steps on the court.
“It was my goal to compete and contribute at a high level. When I was in eighth grade, I would come up and watch varsity games. I knew if I put in the work, I would have a chance to play at a high level,” Lynch said.
Lynch started playing basketball at the YMCA when she was five years old, and her number was 25, but when she started high school she took the number 13. Lynch is here to show that the number in her back has not dealt her any extra luck, but she is the athlete she is today because of hard work and dedication.
