NAHS decorates Christmas cookies to surprise Dominic's staff and faculty
After Thanksgiving break, the Christmas spirit quickly spread throughout the halls of St. Dominic. Without wasting any time, The National Art Honor Society took advantage of the holiday cheer, by decorating Christmas cookies for St. Dominic’s staff members. Also, other students took action to support their teachers.
“We had the idea to help decorate sugar cookies for staff members this year. It was somewhat hard trying to figure everything out, but eventually it turned out great,” Mrs. Linville said.
On Wednesday afternoon, St. Dominic staff members were surprised with a sweet treat, thanks to the help of NAHS. Although it is still early in the season, Dominic made sure to begin celebrating early, by giving teachers something special.
“Although I couldn’t eat them, the cookies were so cute and such a good surprise. I know for a fact that a bunch of teachers enjoyed them,” Mrs. Bolinger said.
The cookies ended up being just as delicious as they were pretty. They were made of a soft sugar cookie base, which NAHS then doused in festive frostings. The cookies even came in multiple shapes such as snowmen, gingerbread, and snowflakes, which added the Christmas flare.
“I enjoyed decorating the ornaments best because they were just adorable and super easy to work with. I’m so happy we decorated cookies and I hope it remains a tradition,” Junior Marissa Clemens said.
Decorating cookies was a new responsibility for members of NAHS, but one that many students were excited to participate in. Anyone in the club could tell you decorating cookies was a fun opportunity, and one that grew the holiday spirit.
“When I heard we were decorating 300 cookies I was in shock, but it ended up being really fun. We played Christmas music, talked, and just had a good time,” Junior Mackenzie Carff said.
Not only were they surprised with cookies, they were also given a dress down pass to use on December first. This wasn’t just a plain pass with some words on it, but it was a special note written by students. All faculty and staff received this special gift to show our appreciation of their work.
While it’s still early in the Christmas season make sure you celebrate before it’s too late! Whether it be decorating Christmas cookies or surprising someone with a special gift, remember to take advantage of the holiday season!
