St. Louis Blues center number ten, Brayden Schenn was named captain on Tuesday September 26th. He is following in the footsteps of the previous captain, Ryan O’Reilly, who is now on the Nashville Predators. Brayden Schenn has worked hard for this opportunity, he has been on the Blues team for six years, and has stepped forward in many different circumstances.
Brayden has been the assistant captain for the last three seasons, and it is finally time for him to step on the ice with the big C on his jersey. Schenn shares how he learned from former captains Alex Pietrangelo, and Ryan O’Reilly and how he wants to embody that leadership.
“For me personally, I’ve played a ton of great captains, and even guys that weren’t captains but were still leaders. You learn from those people, and over time you learn the most from the teammates that were close to you. Most recently with Pedro and Ryan O’Reilly, I learned a ton from those guys,” Schenn said, according to NHL.com.
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Brayden is fit for this job. He has played 858 games in his NHL career, and in the last six years on the Blues averages 21.8 goals as a center. With all that experience he is ready to lead his team to victory.
“Scheen is a leader. He’s an experienced player, he’s done a lot of really good things in St. Louis and he’s been part of a winning team. He shows leadership on and off the ice on a daily basis,” Head Coach Graig Berube said, according to NHL.com.
The Blues came out on top and won the Stanley Cup in 2019. Schenn contributed big that year with 54 points in 72 games played. Brayden Schenn dominated the ice by scoring five goals and assisting on seven goals in the 2019 postseason. Brayden rose to the challenge in 2019 to help the Blues make franchise history.
“I see the team and the whole organization to hold ourselves to a high standard. We have a vision for this team. We feel we have goals that we are going to shoot for this year,” Schenn said, according to NHL.com.
Alongside Captain Brayden Schenn there are three assistant captains, Justin Faulk, Colton Parako, and Robert Thomas. Those four are ready to lead their team back to the cup. Make sure to tune into the first game on October 12th to watch Brayden Schenn lead his team to victory against the Dallas Stars.
