God Save the King!

Charles and Camila assume the throne as King and Queen

Over the weekend, the United Kingdom officially got their new monarch, King Charles III, took the throne. With a very extravagant ceremony, and some family drama, Saturday’s events was one evening you wouldn’t have wanted to miss.

It’s been roughly eight months since the world said goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II, and Charles has been awaiting the throne ever since. Many like to joke that Queen Elizabeth was making him wait an extra long time, but truly he has waited a lot longer to assume the throne than others would have. On his side will be now Queen Camila, who has been married to Charles since 2005. It can’t go without saying that many had hoped that it would be Princess Diana to take the throne as queen, but that’s not how things turned out with her untimely death, in 1997.

Despite his faults, King Charles has been a longtime advocate for climate change, and in following in his mother’s footsteps, he has made it clear that his role will be devoted to serving the people. However, the world will have to see what he makes of his time as King.

At his coronation, there was plenty of family drama to go around *obviously*, with Harry. Coming without his wife, Meghan Markle, Harry showed up in a simple suit, not his military uniform, unlike Prince Andrew. Andrew has been under severe scrutiny ever since news broke of his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein.

The best part of the event undoubtedly goes to Prince Louis, who once again stole the show with his funny faces, and reactions to all the formalities. Louis has been known to be a bit of a troublemaker, and he showed his age when viewers could easily see how tired of the event he was. What makes many laugh the most, are his reactions to his mother, Kate Middleton, when she tells him not to do something. If you haven’t seen it, then picture a young little boy talking back, and disobeying his mother and that’s what you get with Louis.

Overall, it was another grand event from the Royal Family, providing that it was quite a spectacle. Even the Grim Reaper made an appearance! Or, what looked like the grim reaper. Many noticed on TV a clip of what appeared to be a person in a black hood, holding something big. That set aside, the post Elizabeth era of the United Kingdom has begun, and what happens from now on will determine how we view Charles’ time as king.
