What the Future Holds for St. Dominic
As we wind down the 2023-2023 school year, we can begin to wonder what’s next for St. Dominic High School in the future. With lots of funding and tons of resources, St. Dominic has many exciting new additions to come this summer and beyond.
The set in stone plans for St. Dominic in the next couple months, and essentially if you are a sports fan, an athlete, and a driver then you’ll love what’s coming to Dominic.
“This summer we are adding four new tennis courts, we are adding more parking lot out front, we are adding two sections of bleachers to the stadium bleachers, and we are air conditioning the small gym. So those are our four big projects this summer,” Mr. Welby said.
With these new additions all occurring during the summer, we already know that walking into St. Dominic next year is going to have a very different feel (especially if you are in the small gym). However, those are just the short term plans for Dominic, there are also many exciting long term plans as well.
“A couple of the biggest long term projects on our agenda would be, one we are looking at adding a building trades program, so it would be similar to biomedical sciences or the business curriculum. Then, other things that are on the horizon facility wise is to get the baseball and softball fields, turf fields and stadium lights which is probably in the next few years. Lastly, which is something more long term is that we want to build a new cafeteria and renovate the cafeteria into a larger chapel,” Mr. Welby said.
Mr. Welby firmly believes that all of these additions will greatly benefit all of us students, while also agreeing that things like parking are a simple necessity to have. All of these additions will make our beautiful campus all the more better. He also acknowledged that the growing enrollment has allowed us to create all of these things because of all the resources that we have. Similar fundraising to what was used for the Wies Center for the Sciences building would be used with these future projects.
The final question for Mr. Welby was asking him what isn’t currently planned, but he would like to see planned, and his answer was one that all students would adore.
“I would love for us to have a coffee shop somewhere in our building. You would have a barista here through lunch that would serve all the iced coffees and coffees. I think our students would love and the teachers would as well,” Welby said.
We will see what the future holds for St. Dominic, but we are all very excited to see these new additions when we come back in August. And who knows we might even get a coffee shop one day.
