Wicked: A Musical Done to Perfection

Hennepin Theatre Trust

Wicked’s captivating performances have taken over the fabulous Fox Theatre.

Over the past few weeks, Wicked has been giving fans some amazing shows at the Fabulous Fox Theater. From someone who has never seen this show before, to say that my mind was blown would be an understatement. Every song and every piece of dialogue just drew me in more and more. Wicked, gave me an experience that I will never forget.

The comedic timing of Glinda and Elphaba made this show extremely enjoyable for viewers of all ages. Elphaba, played by Lisa Deguzman, knew how to win over the audience with her breathtaking vocals. When she sang ‘Defying Gravity’ I couldn’t have told you anything else that happened because of how mesmerized I was. Because that was the concluding number of the first act, many people went to the bathroom or went to go get drinks after it concluded, but I was stuck in my seat in almost a trance.

Now to talk about Glinda, who was played by Jennafer Newberry, I can’t talk enough about how impressive her comedic timing was. Nearly every line she had cracked me up. Her ability to bring Glinda to life was perhaps what impressed me the most. That goes for everyone else as well. This show made it feel 100% real with no actual acting at all. Everything felt brought to life to its fullest potential which not every show can do. The staging was phenomenal with so many cool props used across so many scenes.

In terms of my favorite plays that I’ve seen at the Fox, Wicked is absolutely up there with the Lion King. Each was unique and wonderful in their own way, but something about Wicked made it feel so special. The vocals of each character took my breath away, and I loved getting a new view into the land of Oz. Wicked is a play that I absolutely recommend to anyone that thinks about seeing it because it is simply that amazing.
