No Time Better to be a Fan of Team USA
After the recent announcement from U.S. and Mexico soccer of their intention to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, it has been made very clear that there is no better time to be a fan of Team USA than right now.
If FIFA were to award the 2027 WC to the United States and Mexico, it would add another major sporting event to an already stacked calendar for American sports fans. What’s that calendar you may ask? Well, if all goes well, the United States has the possibility to host the following
2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup (Confirmed as host)
2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup (Not confirmed yet)
2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles (Confirmed)
2030 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City (Not confirmed yet)
Though you may wonder why all of this is important now, it’s important to plan ahead for your tickets because this would be an absolutely crazy four years to be an American sports fan. Also, it isn’t really that far away when you consider that the next men’s WC is the one in the United States. By the end of the decade, the U.S. could have possibly hosted four of the biggest sporting events in the world.
The U.S. hasn’t hosted a Women’s World Cup since 2003, which followed the infamous 1999 tournament that saw the penalty shootout win over China that ended with Brandi Chastain ripping her shirt off in celebration. There’s no doubt that crowds would sell out all over Mexico and the U.S., so it’s vital that the United States is able to win this bid.
The United States hasn’t hosted the summer olympics since 1996 (Atlanta), the men’s WC since 1994, and the Winter Olympics since 2002 (Salt Lake City). As stated, the Women’s WC was last hosted in the U.S. in 2003, so it has been what feels like an eternity since we’ve hosted an international sporting event of this magnitude.
Whatever happens with the bids for the 2027 Women’s WC, and the bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics, I just know that I hope the U.S. is able to win the bids. This greatly excites me as a sports fan, and it should excite you too!
