Mahomes’ Magic Outclasses Hurts’ Heroics

The Chiefs won the thrilling Super Bowl over the Eagles.

In what was an absolute thriller of a Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs were able to pull out the victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to crown themselves champions of the world. The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, were able to keep the Eagles at bay despite a slow first half. However, a gritty offense that scored on every possession in the second half led the Chiefs to victory.

It was the best championship game the NFL could’ve asked for. The first quarter was extremely evenly matched between both teams with both teams scoring clutch touchdowns. It started with a Jalen Hurts run into the end zone to give the Eagles an early lead, but it would be a combination of Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes to tie the game up. At the end of the first quarter the game was knotted at 7-7.

The second quarter was when the Eagles really started to take charge. Hurts, who had an amazing game, threw a 45 yard pass to A.J. Brown to give the Eagles the lead again. At this stage in the game all the momentum was with the Eagles, but a fumble from Hurts allowed Nick Bolton to run 36 yards into the end zone for a fumble return touchdown. The scoreline remained 14-14 for a while until Jalen Hurts once again scored on a very short run after an amazing drive from Philadelphia. With the Chiefs being unable to make any movement on the ball, the Eagles were able to retain the ball and score a field goal right as time expired.

Now came the time of the night that millions of people were looking forward to, Rihanna’s halftime show. Rihanna sang some of her best hits to the admiration of her adoring fans. The shots of her singing Diamonds in the air will no doubt be one of the most iconic shots in halftime show history. It was even reported by ESPN that her halftime show drew in roughly five million more viewers than the actual game itself. That wasn’t her only exciting moment of the night, as was later announced by her team that she is pregnant with her second child.

After the excitement of the halftime show, the Chiefs had to come out quick and fast if they were to win this game and they did exactly that. A massive drive capped off by a one yard touchdown from Isiah Pacheco meant that the Chiefs were within three points. That lead from the Eagles would then be extended after a converted field goal from kicker, Jake Elliot. The scoreline stood 27-21 in favor of the Eagles, but the Chiefs had the ball heading into the fourth and most exciting quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Kansas City got the ball moving right away, despite Mahomes being in serious pain after a rough tackle earlier in the game. Kadarius Toney was able to receive the five yard pass from Mahomes to put the Chiefs into the lead for the first time all game. However, it was the next drive that put the Eagles in a really bad spot. Having to punt, the Eagles punted it and were punished for it by Kadarius Toney, who had a gigantic punt return and put the Chiefs right back into scoring position. Skyy Moore caught the four yard pass to put the Chiefs up by eight points with a little under ten minutes to go. Giving credit to Philadelphia, they were extremely quick in their movement of the ball down the field. Jalen Hurts scored another touchdown and he also converted the two point conversion to tie the game up at 35-35 with five minutes left. Mahomes was able to put the Chiefs into scoring territory once again, and with the use of some incredible time management, the Chiefs were able to score a field goal with eight seconds left to give them a 38-35 lead. The field goal, scored by Harrison Butker, would prove to be the game clinching score as Hurts was unable to throw the Hail Mary pass which meant that Kansas City were once again Super Bowl Champions.

The 2022-2023 NFL season concluded with as good as a Super Bowl as they could ask for. Drama, heroics, incredible plays, this game had it all and then some. Patrick Mahomes has certainly input himself into the conversation of some of the best quarterbacks of this generation. Jalen Hurts too had an amazing game, however, the failed Hail Mary pass at the end of the game will haunt him. In the end, it was a victory for Kansas City, and being in the same state as them, it was heavily celebrated in St. Louis as well. Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 57th Super Bowl champions!
