A Wonderful Winter Formal
Over the weekend, St. Dominic students got to celebrate the conclusion of Catholic Schools Week with the Winter Formal. It was a night of dancing, partying, and having fun with friends. Despite the cold temperature, St. Dominic students showed up and showed out to celebrate the evening festivities.
It was the best possible ending to a wild Catholic Schools Week that started with a crazy snow and ice storm. Still, St. Dominic was able to celebrate this long standing tradition, and the Winter Formal was the best possible finish to the week. Between the fancy dresses and the wild dance circles, it was a night filled with memories made.
“I really liked when they played fireball by Pitbull because I love that song and Pitbull, and it can always get me to dance and have fun with my friends. I probably will come back again next year because it will be my senior year so I want to have all the fun experiences for the last time,” junior Caitlyn Kennedy said.
What perhaps most students enjoyed was that there was a dance in the winter. The break between homecoming in September and prom in April is very long. Therefore, this time of year can feel fairly boring for student life. However, a dance to look forward to really helped bring back that excitement.
“Normally there are only two dances during the year, one at the beginning, and one at the end. It’s really nice to have one in the middle of the year to give everyone something to look forward to,” Kennedy said.
The dance was perfectly planned out by the special events committee who have done a fantastic job at planning these dances. From getting to school early in the morning to help set up, to coming back on Sunday to help clean up, their work can never go unappreciated. The special events team spent a long time preparing this dance, and we can’t thank them enough for it.
“The most challenging part of planning winter formal changes by the year. Last year, the snow during Catholic Schools Week complicated ticket sales, but thankfully, I feel like this year ran seamlessly. Outside of the usual minor mishaps, I’d say the most challenging part was preventing students from bringing water into the small gym. We wanted to avoid the homecoming’s slippery mosh pit, so I spent most of the night guarding the entrance,” special events house coordinator Ms. Goedeke said.
This dance, like many others, was a huge hit with hundreds of students in attendance. It was another great opportunity for students to get together as a community and just have fun without the stress of school work. A huge thanks to the special events team for putting together this wonderful event, and giving students the opportunity to make more memories together.
