Seniors Swim to the Finish Line
Senior swim night is inching closer as the girls will be honored January 24th. Some of the girls have been swimming for many years, and others picked this sport up just for fun.
Another winter season is almost to a close meaning many lessons have been taught and learned by coach and player. The team has bonded in many memorable ways.
“There’s a group of three of them, especially that just kind of like, make jokes with one another about like being mermaids and how they’re going to kill it because they’re mermaid tails and that makes me laugh every time. Then the ones who have been there forever with me, it’s just really cool watching them develop into the swimmers that they’ve become,” swim Coach Carly Honerkamp said.
Coach Honerkamp has coached some of the girls their entire swim career. Since she has been with the girls so long, she was taught to not take everything so seriously.
“It is okay to be silly because I’m a silly person anyway. But they are always pushing that bounds and just working hard with it though too,” Honerkamp said.
Senior swimmer Victoria Pollard has been on the swim team for three years. For her, swimming was all about meeting new people and staying in shape during the winter.
“I learned hard work and perseverance from my coaches. Swimming is a very mentally tough sport, and my coaches helped me learn how to handle it and keep pushing myself always,” Pollard said.
Other senior Becca Ryan just started diving this year. With her past gymnastics experience, she thought diving would be a fun new thing to try.
“I will miss Mrs. Honerkamp and Mrs. Mennemeier the most. Fun fact, I inhale the entire pool every time I dive because I can’t hold my breath,” Ryan said
Make sure to catch these mermaids in the pool January 24th vs Duchesne for their special senior night. This will be their last meet at the Rec Plex!
