On the Mend
After a sudden accident over the summer injured her left hip, Mrs. Potthast fought hard to return to school. Recovering in record time, she has been welcomed back into the St. Dominic community by caring faculty members and the student body.
The incident occurred on a hot summer’s day at the end of July.
“I was going out to get the mail and I tripped on a piece of carpet on my deck and crashed out onto my left hip,” said Mrs. Potthast.
A trip to the hospital revealed a hip fracture that would only require repair, not replacement. In spite of Mrs. Potthast being in the hospital only three days, she endured grueling physical therapy with a specialist for three weeks. Now she is on her own to do exercises until fully recovered. To aid in her rehabilitation, Mrs. Potthast uses a hot-pink, sparkling cane in her daily activities.
Her motivation to quickly return to the St. Dominic community is understandable. Mrs. Potthast is teaching five classes this year: three American Literature classes and two honors American Literature classes. Additionally, she has the fall play, See How They Run, and the spring musical, The Fiddler on the Roof, to look forward to.
The students and faculty of St. Dominic wish Mrs. Potthast a full and speedy recovery.
