Georgia Football Reigns Supreme

Georgia quarterback, Stetson Bennett, leads Georgia to second straight championship.

Now that the dust has settled and the 2022-2023 college football season is over, one thing has been made clear, Georgia truly is the top dog of the NCAA. A dominant victory in the national championship against Texas Christian University (TCU), and an undefeated season solidified Georgia’s place in the record books.

This game wasn’t ever a contested game… like at all. The final score read Georgia 65- TCU 7. Yes, you read that right, the final score of the national championship game was 65-7. Utter dominance from Georgia’s offense left TCU without a clue on the defensive end. This game didn’t end how most people thought it would. Many, including myself, assumed that Georgia would end up winning but only by a little bit. With a 58 point differential, the scoreline difference between these two teams was the largest difference in score in bowl game history, odd that it was in the national championship. Some even thought that TCU had a small chance of winning and proving their underdog status. As the scoreline shows, that was entirely not the case.

Georgia quarterback, Stetson Bennett, was the star of the game for Georgia. He led their offense to 65 points, and he tied the record for most touchdowns in the national championship with six. His dynamic throwing throughout the game showed how special of a player he is. From a walk-on to a two time national champion, Stetson Bennett’s story will go down in history for Georgia Football.

While this game might have been fairly lackluster, the entire bowl season did not disappoint at all. So many exciting, nail-biting games took place. Some of the games, such as the Cotton Bowl, saw Tulane University come back from 15 points down with a little under four minutes to go to defeat the University of Southern California (USC). However, the most notable games of the bowl season were the semifinals which saw two absolutely incredible matchups between TCU and Michigan, and Georgia vs Ohio State.

Both games were quite literally decided at the last minute. The Fiesta Bowl had TCU defeating Michigan by a score of 51 to 45. Michigan had the opportunity to possibly take the lead in the last minute, but TCU’s defense was able to stand tall. In the other semifinal, the Peach Bowl, Georgia was able to take down Ohio State 42 to 41. A missed game-winning field goal at the stroke of the New Year meant that Georgia had won an all time classic.

Overall, this year’s college football season was memorable for all the great games that were played. Each week throughout the season, underdog teams gave the favorites a run for their money, and in some cases they actually won. The national championship may have been a let down in terms of two teams being closely contested, but it doesn’t take away from a great season that saw the Georgia Bulldogs going back-to-back.
