What to Look Forward to in 2023
As we now put 2022 behind us, with a new year there are so many things to look forward to. From entertainment to sports to fun things going on in St. Louis, 2023 promises to be filled with cool things to experience.
Starting with entertainment, there are so many movies planning to make their debut. Some of the most anticipated movies include: the live action Little Mermaid, Wonka, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Barbie, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. All of these plus plenty more is just a preview of what is to come. If you are like me, then the new Hunger Games prequel will be the one that is most anticipated, but in 2023 there will be something for everyone.
Staying with entertainment, so many new albums and tours can be expected this year. Some of the highly anticipated albums that will be released in the next few months include: Lana Del Ray, Miley Cyrus, Paramore, and Måneskin just to name a few. Those are the albums, but what about concerts coming to the STL area? The biggest stars that are headed to the gateway to the west are: Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Janet Jackson, Thomas Rhett, Lizzo, Louis Tomlinson, and Shania Twain. Whew, that’s a lot of concerts. However, the biggest concert of the year for music fans in St. Louis won’t even be in St. Louis. It’ll be in Kansas City, but who is it that’s performing on July 7th and July 8th? Taylor Swift of course. For all the swifties this is the main event for the year as she will be on her Eras tour.
While that covered the entertainment to expect in St. Louis this year, there is another major thing happening to our city this year. Our MLS (Major League Soccer) team will finally be in their debut season. STL City SC will make their long awaited debut and will try to become the best in the U.S. While many believe that an MLS team is long overdue for this soccer town, many fans are just happy that we are finally at this point. They will play in their first ever MLS match on February 25th against Austin FC in Texas, but the game that everyone will be waiting for is their home opener, which will be on March 4th against Charlotte FC. Believe me when I say that these home games are going to be rowdy and a blast for everyone in attendance. This city has deserved an MLS team for a long time and soccer fans are glad to see it finally happen. Below will be a link to their schedule…

Lastly, staying with sports and looking ahead to this year’s major sporting events, the usual March Madness, World Series and Stanley Cup are all going to be at their usual time of the year. With it being a non-Olympic year, the exciting major sporting event of the year will be the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where the United States will look to win their third World Cup in a row, a feat which has never been accomplished. They will face off against fellow favorites England, Germany, Sweden, Canada and plenty more as the list goes on. This World Cup will be the deepest Women’s World Cup there has ever been talent wise. With 32 teams and roughly 10 favorites, no one knows who will come out victorious. The tournament will be co-hosted for the first time in Women’s World Cup history by Australia and New Zealand starting on July 20th this summer. Although time zones will prove to be challenging, cheer on the team as they face off against Vietnam, Netherlands, and the winner of an intercontinental playoff which will happen later in February. The USWNT will most likely keep their motto from the 2019 World Cup, which they were victorious in, which is, “Come at the queen, best not miss.” I previously covered the 2022 Men’s World Cup, and I cannot wait to see another World Cup this summer, even if it means staying up late because of their time zones.
2023 has so much to look forward to, and it will be filled with so many fun moments that will be important to experience them all. Keep your eyes on the lookout for fun things to see or try this year. 2023 will be a big year for St. Louis, so maybe think about going to a concert or going to see an MLS game. Whichever it is, it will be a fun year without a doubt!
