St. Dominic Thanksgiving Traditions
Thanksgiving traditions are common among all families across the United States. Spending time with family and friends is a great way to spend this holiday, and St. Dominic’s staff take this well deserved break from school to appreciate those closest to them.
Mr. Tock is excited to get a day off school to celebrate his loved ones, but his favorite part about Thanksgiving is playing a dice game called LCR, or Left Center Right.
“Both sides of the family play LCR, it gets aggressive. My favorite part is watching the little cousins get fired up over a dice game,” Tock said.
Another person who loves spending time with their loved ones is Ms. Robbins. She and her family enjoy having dinner, watching football and playing many games. But besides Thanksgiving, they also celebrate her brother or mom’s birthday.
“The holiday always falls on my brother or mom’s birthday, so we will have some sort of celebration for that. We always like to look through advertisements to see if any good deals are going on for Black Friday. I love being able to get together each year on Thanksgiving and just enjoy each other’s company,” Robbins said.
Mrs. Goins enjoys Thanksgiving because it gives her a chance to appreciate her family and those closest to her. Her family meets every year to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, and she expresses her gratitude for them all.
“My family gathers for a traditional meal, usually at my parents’ farm or at my house. It has been this way for years. I’d not know how it began,” Goins said.
Thanksgiving gives us a chance to take a step back and give thanks to those who sometimes tend to go unappreciated in our lives. St. Dominic students can’t wait for Thanksgiving break to show the utmost gratitude for their loved peers, and especially God who always gives us a reason to be thankful!
