Father Patrick blesses girls soccer and boys volleyball state rings.

On Wednesday the 19th, the entire student body came to recognize the history-making boys volleyball team and the three-time girls soccer state champions of St. Dominic. Father Patrick gave a special blessing over the rings, and players after the mass.

The boys varsity volleyball team took a monumental step for the entire program. After this huge achievement, the boys became the Class 3 State Champions and they finally have something to show for it.

“The ring’s significance is all the hard work we put in. I honestly don’t remember a whole lot about it (state) probably because I was so focused on this one singular goal and to finally have the ring on my finger signifies it,” junior Noah Schuessler said.

Girls soccer is no different from volleyball. Both teams equally worked countless hours to obtain this immense title. For soccer this ceremony is not their first, as it meant more than just getting a ring.

“Being recognized by the whole school, especially during mass, is definitely something my teammates and I hold very special to us. It sets us apart from other programs because we have such a supportive, faith- based community. Being up in front of the community today reminds me that winning isn’t just for the team, but it should be shared with the entire St. Dominic family,” senior Julia Shoults.

St. Dominic currently holds 12 State Champion soccer titles, which builds many rings in the program. Although the common thought of a ring represents the win, it has a much deeper meaning.

“It represents our effort as a team and the love we have for each other in pushing each other every day to compete. Wearing this ring will remind me every day of the memories and team that earned it,” Shoults said.

Both teams are finally able to show off the dedication they put into their sport. More importantly, each player will also be reminded of the memories made along the journey to and from the championship.
