Girls Varsity Golf plays at Quail Creek Gold Club

St. Dominic girl’s golf season is quickly approaching as their first match begins next week. Varsity and JV have been preparing for this season every day since the beginning of August. With the introduction of a new coach, more girls are given the chance to play for the golf team.

Varsity head Coach Dan Matusiak has been coaching golf for a total of 14 years. Matusiak has been holding high standards for his team in order to get them to the state competition at the end of the season.

“The varsity girls are competing for match positions with the hope of being selected to compete at the end of the season in the AAA Conference tournament and in the district tournament,” Coach Matusiak said.

This year Coach Arell begins his journey as a golf coach. As the JVcoach he will be able to teach more players the fundamentals of golf, and help build their confidence on the course.  Arell also works here at St. Dominic as one of the new gym coaches.

“Having Coach Arell join us this year has allowed us to provide instruction and attention more effectively,” Matusiak said.

All summer long, players have been practicing at the Golf Club Wentzville and the Fall’s Driving Range. Varsity player Elise Kehoe has set high hopes and goals for her junior season.

“I hope we beat Father Tolton this year since we tied them last year and continue to work hard every practice. Also to make this season better I hope to improve my score by shaving strokes off each hole,” Kehoe said.

With all the preparation for their first match, varsity will be able to bring their “A” game. Wednesday the 31st, varsity plays against Father Tolton Regional High School. Make sure to come watch a match this season!
