The Pillars that Shape St. Dominic
St. Dominic High School focuses on the importance of prayer, study, community and service. These 4 pillars help shape the way the faculty and students live their lives in and out of the classroom.
To St. Dominic students and staff, these pillars help us on our mission to Jesus Christ. They are lived out in many different ways. By using these characteristics as a guideline to life, we grow closer to our main goal; heaven.
“These pillars are lived out in the classroom, on the field, and on the stage. Every day students engage in prayer, they spend time learning, they bond with each other in community, and they live our lives of service,” St. Dominic priest, Fr. Patrick Russell said.
For as long as many of the faculty and staff have been working at St. Dominic, the pillars have remained the same. There is no need to change them. In our everyday lives we live out the four pillars, even in the smallest and most unnoticeable ways. A simple prayer before class, completing service hours, or even just holding open a door for someone are just a few of the ways we live out the pillars not even realizing it.
“Study is obvious, Prayer we do everyday in every class. Community is shown in Family Time, Empower Hour, and all after school activities, and Service is lived by our teachers daily and shown daily by our students,” St. Dominic President Mr. Welby said.
These four pillars of St. Dominic have been around for many years. Their time has surpassed presidents, principles, faculty and students and will continue to drive us into the future.
“I think it’s a good thing because our traditions as a school help form us today. St. Dominic in its current iteration in 2022 is a result of the growth that St. Dominic has experienced from 1929 to now..” Fr. Patrick Russel said.
These pillars, prayer, study, community and service, will always remain the same. We live out these pillars in our everyday lives, even by a simple prayer or completing service hours. No matter how old or outdated, these pillars will remain just as relevant as the small gym and more.
