Señor Prank
Seniors Clayton Davis and Sam Becker pulled off the senior prank of a lifetime. With the help of the Class of ‘22, administration and a mariachi band, they were able to bring the entire school together during a fun-filled empower hour. This is how they did it.
Davis and Becker came up with the idea in their study hall. It was the perfect prank. No one would get hurt, everyone would love it, and Mr. Tock, the Dean of Students, was the perfect target.
“Mr. Tock was an easy target. I know him pretty well, and it would’ve been really funny to do. Plus, I would rather have Mr. Welby’s approval than Mr. Tock’s,” Davis said.
Becker and Davis decided to hire a mariachi band to follow Mr. Tock around for the entirety of empower hour because the style of their music and overall vibe would be a hilarious prank that everyone would remember.
“Los Rayes was just the first band we saw and Clayton said he had seen them before and they were really good,” Becker said.
The boys raised all the money from teachers and fellow seniors. It cost $450 to hire the mariachi band, and they ended up collecting $650. 90% of the money raised actually came from the teachers, as everyone wanted this to happen.
Unfortunately their plan came to a brief halt. Someone had told Mr. Tock about the prank and he actually emailed the boys to tell them to not do the prank. But the boys went to President Mr. Jim Welby and he told them to do it anyway.
Everyone worked hard to make sure Mr. Tock thought it wasn’t happening anymore. Mr. Tock was shocked when he saw the band approach him in the lobby of the new Center for the Sciences building.
“I had no idea. One teacher asked me earlier in the day if I was ready for my ‘surprise’ and it made me a little anxious but until I saw a mariachi band member sprint across the hallway I had no idea this was coming,” Mr. Tock said.
What was even more surprising was that none of the other seniors knew that this prank was happening. Needless to say, Becker and Davis couldn’t wait to see Mr. Tock’s reaction.
“I was so happy. I didn’t only notice his reaction, but all the joy and happiness it brought to our school. All the smiles Sam and I brought to people’s faces was so worth it,” Davis said.
The band stayed and followed the entire empower hour and followed Mr. Tock throughout the whole school, bringing upbeat mariachi music everywhere he went. After the mariachi band left, this is what Mr. Tock had to say about the whole prank.
“Honestly, I loved it. This is such a great community to be a part of. Made me a bit wet in my eyes. I hope everyone had a good time,” Mr. Tock said.
This prank will be ingrained in the minds of the entire St. Dominic community for many years to come. All I can say is good luck to whoever tries to top this prank!
