Crusaderettes Crushing the Competition

The Crusaderettes after securing the AAA Conference tournament

The Lady Crusaderettes have been on a victorious streak since the beginning of their season this winter. In every competition they have participated in, the team has come out as one of the top two teams on the floor.

Every year, the Crusaderettes get to take two dances to competition. This winter season, the dances are Pom and lyrical, two very different styles of dance. Pom typically involves formations and jumps with hip hop or jazz influences. The dancers also get to use their Poms to accentuate their routine. Lyrical routines are typically more emotional and technical in both the music and moves.

Kendall Kortkamp, a senior on the Crusaderettes, has been a member of the dance team for all of her four years spent at St. Dominic. She shows her commitment to the art by dancing since she was two and a half.

“I have danced for almost all my life and both my sisters were on the dance team, and told me a lot about it, so I definitely knew I wanted to be a part of the team,” Kortkamp stated.

The Crusaderettes have been preparing their routines on end since September of 2021, perfecting every step and each pointed toe. With their current record, they are expected to do very well in the state competition which they qualified for in the upcoming months. With Ursuline High School as their biggest competition, it will surely be a sight to see.

“One of the many things dance has taught me is persistence, when you put in the work at practice and are constant it really pays off,” Kortkamp also stated.

These awesome girls are heading to the St. Charles family Arena on February 26 for an all day event where they will leave their mark of a hard working and successful season on the floor. Make sure to support the Crusaderettes in their last competition of the season, the State Championship!
