Delaney Smith smiling bright on her senior night!

This past Wednesday, the St. Dominic’s varsity girls basketball team hosted their senior night against Notre Dame. The team celebrated their only senior, Delaney Smith, who has played basketball all four years and was even pulled up to varsity freshman year.

Smith has been an amazing player and an even more outstanding teammate as she has led the team this year as their captain. Not only has she played all four years in high school, but she has been playing basketball since she was in 2nd grade.

“I’ve loved basketball ever since I stepped foot onto the court the very first time. It has been my dream to play in high school, and it was even better than I imagined it would be. Being the only senior was a little overwhelming at first, but I definitely have settled into it and wouldn’t want it any other way,” Smith said.

The senior night was definitely a success with a heartwarming walk down the court with Smith’s parents. Senior nights are always the best games for seniors, because it allows them to feel special and really take in their last games.

“My team decorated the locker room, reminisced about good times and things that they would miss about me, and gave me gifts which were super cool. I’ll miss the feeling of being on the court and the adrenaline rush during close games,” Smith said.

With senior night being her last home game, Smith ended it scoring above her personal average points per game. Unfortunately, the Crusaders lost in a heartbreaker, 51-50 against Notre Dame, but it didn’t take away from the excitement and love the team has for their only senior Delaney Smith. They still have four more away games, so be sure and support the team and see Smith in action.
