Small gym decked out for the winter formal

This past Saturday night, St. Dominic held their annual winter formal in the small gym. The turnout was amazing and definitely surpassed previous years. With our own student-run DJ, Ethan Coutts and Jacob Jones pumped up the crowd.

In past years, the winter dance has been a mixer with different themes like neon, decades and jersey. However, many students have been asking for a formal winter dance, and the student council officers listened. Student council, along with Ms. Grace Goedeke, an English teacher and co-leader of student council, organized a fabulous dance in spite of the snowy weather.

“The student council officers used their creativity, organization and strong work ethics to drive the preparation for the dance in all aspects. In addition, a few senior parents helped with setting up the decorations in the gym beforehand and administration and a group of chaperones kindly helped oversee the behavior at the dance. The turnout exceeded our expectations. With winter formal looking different and not happening in past years, we felt unsure about how students would respond; we were unsure if anyone would even be interested. However, I believe roughly 350 students ended up attending the dance and seemingly had a great time,” Ms. Goedeke said.

Dances always feel like a fever dream, but with the white curtains and sparkling lights, this one is definitely at the top of the list. The music hit every aspect of fun and groovy and left everyone bouncing the wooden floors of the old gym.

“It was a lot of fun running the music because whenever we picked the next song everyone immediately knew what it was and got hyped,” Ethan Coutts, senior tech and sound specialist, said.

“It makes the dance better so that everyone can relate to what is being played and who is playing it. The only bad part was taking all of it down within an hour,” Jacob Jones, senior tech and sound specialist, said.

The students enjoyed the dance just as much as the DJ’s did. Not only did most of the senior class attend, but so did a lot of juniors and underclassmen.

“The winter formal was a little different because it was in the small gym, but I thought it was a lot of fun! This was my first winter formal, and I am glad it was a formal because I think it made it more fun that we could all dress up. My favorite part of the dance was dancing with all my friends and getting to hangout,” junior faith Henke said.

Overall, the winter formal was a hit! The music was fire, the dancing impeccable and it made for another amazing Crusader event. It will be hard to top this year’s dance, but we are already looking forward to what next year will bring!
