As the end of the month draws near, St. Dominic and its surrounding Catholic community are more than excited to kick off Catholic Schools Week! It begins next Monday, January 31st, and goes through the following Friday, February 4th. This is a great time for Crusaders to show their school pride, and why they chose St  Dominic to further grow their education in the Catholic faith.

Catholic Schools Week is a national event that showcases the importance and value of Catholic education and works towards growing students’ relationships with God. The theme for CSW 2022 is “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.” To celebrate, St. Dominic holds an all student body Mass on Tuesday, February 1st. Throughout the week, there will be other incentives and activities for students to participate in as well.

Faith Henke, a junior at St. Dominic stated, “Catholic Schools Week means a lot to me since I attend a Catholic school and St. Dominic is a huge part of my life. It allows me to notice the value and total effect Catholic education has on me.”

Henke is also an adamant member of the Pro Life Club at St. Dominic. The club strives to fight for the rights of the unborn. Fighting for those lives is a huge part of the Catholic Faith, and it is also celebrated during Catholic Schools Week.

“I think that Catholic Schools Week helps unify the school to all come together and realize the importance St. Dominic has on all of us,” Henke continued.

Students are not the only ones who participate in Catholic Schools Week. Teachers are also called to get involved and encourage students to expand their faith and community.

“In these times it is so important that we, as the Body of Christ, remind the world that we are made in God’s image and likeness and that all human life innately deserves to be acknowledged and respected with dignity. I am so thankful for the St. Dominic community that prays together, serves together, learns together and therefore we are all enabled to lead. Christ called us all to be disciples and the pillars of St. Dominic ensure that we do so,” religion teacher Mrs. Hirtz said.

Catholic Schools Week not only connects St  Dominic’s community, but it also connects St.  Dominic to the Catholic faith that surrounds us and allows us to learn and grow every single day. We are so excited to see what next week will bring, so be sure to get involved and enjoy this special time to celebrate our faith.
