The houses are collecting gifts so families may have a joyful Christmas!

St. Dominic has been participating in the Adopt-a-Family program for many years through outreach club, however this is the second year that the House System is taking on this project. It is a time where each House buys gifts for a less fortunate family in the community so that they may enjoy Christmas and have presents under the tree.

Every family in each house is assigned one member from their designated family to buy gifts for them. Most families have around six people and each person sends in a list of things they would like for Christmas to each House. St. Dominic is participating in this fundraiser so that families who are less fortunate can try and have a normal Christmas.

Not only are the families buying gifts, but they are also purchasing food items so that the families may have a nice Christmas meal or just as a donation. This has taught students that it’s not always about what we want, but what we need.

“I am happy that I have the opportunity to make a difference in another person’s life. I love the impact that this opportunity not only has on the family but on me as an HOH who gets to help lead this fundraiser,” Dignitas HOH Owen Gober said.

Each Family Captain and HOH have a set day to deliver the gifts and food to every family. This is a time where students get to show the service and community pillars of St. Dominic. This will be a great time for all students to see how they can so easily help others and bring some light into the world.

“Being able to be a part of Adopt-a-Family and knowing that everyone is participating to make someone’s Christmas special is something that I think is so awesome. I am so excited to be able to deliver the gifts and feel the ‘giving’ aspect of Christmas through it,” said Gaudium HOH Jessica Larson.

Adopt-a-Family is an amazing opportunity for all of St. Dominic as we prepare for the Christmas season. The community is doing exactly what Jesus told us and are helping others when they need it most!
