With Halloween being only two weeks in the past, Christmas already seems to be on everybody’s mind. As skeletons and tombstones come down, Christmas lights and inflatable Santas are going up. Annual Christmas and Black Friday sales have already begun with urgency to get a head start on the holiday season.
Last year, the pandemic put a real damper on Christmas and the ability to travel and see loved ones. However, with vaccines and new information about how to stay safe around others, people have rushed to experience the joyful holiday season they lost last year. In fact, many stores and restaurants have already decorated their buildings and started selling Christmas merchandise even before Thanksgiving.
Our very own media editor, Lexi Bross has noticed a drastic change of scenery at Texas Roadhouse where she works. Just a couple days after Halloween, Texas Roadhouse transformed from the wild west to a winter wonderland complete with Christmas lights and a holiday moose as you enter the restaurant.
“We have lights, Christmas window stickers, garland and pretty much everything you can think of when you think of Christmas, we even have a tree! As a waitress, I have to get people to buy our gift cards, it’s actually not a bad deal, with every $30 you put on a gift card, you get five dollars back! It’s hard selling right now because it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but I get rewarded when I sell over a certain amount of gift cards,” Bross said.
The Tuesday after Halloween, I had the opportunity to work a truck shift at Old Navy where I unloaded a plethora of Christmas pajamas, Santa hats, cozy socks and holiday slippers. As soon as the store opened that morning, Christmas music blared through the speakers and welcomed customers who ravaged through the pajamas. Then, I drove home that night to see my entire house lined with Christmas lights on the roof!
Businesses aren’t the only ones who are feeling the Christmas spirit. Some of our Crusader families have already assembled their Christmas trees and spent countless hours watching Hallmark Christmas movies that were released on October 22, nine days before Halloween.
“We usually wait until after Thanksgiving to put up the tree, but for some reason it just felt right to get it finished now. My entire family was home, and we made hot chocolate, watched Christmas movies, and decorated our big tree. It definitely looks the best it ever has in a long time,” senior Olivia Stransky said.
Although it may be a little earlier than usual, we finally have a more normal year where we don’t have to waste anymore time, so schedule a whole day with your family to start your Christmas traditions.
