Player to Watch: Gabby Povich
This week’s player to watch is senior field hockey star forward, Gabby Povich. As captain of the varsity field hockey team, Povich has made quite an impressive mark with 12 goals this season! Starting on varsity as a freshman, she has grown into one of the most aggressive but talented field hockey players St. Dominic has ever seen.
As competitive and determined as Povich is, she has become a great leader and teammate who dominates the field every time she plays. Other players describe her as driven, hardworking, kind, a good sport and a great friend.

“I love my team and the seniors so much. We all have this bond that I’ve never had before with anyone. My favorite thing about field hockey is the competition and not only sticking with the other teams but beating them as well,” Povich said.
The goal-scoring machine has been a key contributor to the success of the entire field hockey team, who is ranked number seven in the city of St. Louis. Povich controls the field and takes great leadership as a forward, scoring in every game this year.
“I love being the forward because there are so many opportunities to score and be aggressive against the defense. I feel my best when I receive an amazing pass from the midfield that I flick over the defense in order to shoot my final shot right past the goalie. Every time after I score, my teammates and best friends come running up to me and we make a big scene in the middle of the field” Povich said.
Povich is one of the hardest workers on the team and has been dedicated to the team since freshman year. They are standing at 6-1 in their season so far. Povich has carried her team all four years and finally receives the recognition she deserves as a captain in her senior year.
The St. Dominic field hockey team will greatly miss Gabby Povich when she graduates later this school year. However, there is still plenty of time and opportunities for Povich to continue on her hot streak. Be sure to show up and support the entire field hockey team as they play Webster Groves this Thursday!
