The 2021 VMA’s Best Artists

Many talented singers, artists and songwriters have already been nominated for the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. The VMAs, held on September 12, were hosted by the amazing rapper and singer, Doja Cat. The ceremony started off with celebrities Madonna and Jennifer Lopez paying tribute to the 40th anniversary of MTV.

Doja Cat made history this year as it was the first time in history a “Video of the Year” nominee hosted the ceremony in the same year.

The luxurious event saw some stunning live performances by singer/rapper Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow singing their new song “Industry Baby” and singer Justin Bieber who made a surprise return to the VMA stage.

When it came to awards, there was no shortage of popular stars receiving this huge honor. Lil Nas X, famous singer Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Bieber, and the popular K-pop boy band BTS were some of the most awarded artists of the night.

It was a big night for Lil Nas X, as he took home the biggest award of the night, the “Video of the Year” award for his groundbreaking “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” music video which aired this past March.

Justin Bieber led with most nominations this year with a whopping total of seven nominations and took home a pair of Moon Person statues, including “Artist of the Year” award.

Another highly anticipated award was the “Song of the Year” award which was rightfully given to 17 year old Olivia Rodrigo for her song “Drivers License.” The song, which broke the internet in early January, allowed the teenager to win the “Push Performance of the Year.” Finally, Rodrigo won her third award for “Best New Artist, Presented by Facebook” at the end of the night.

Trailing behind them was the remarkable singer/songwriter Billie Eilish who won two awards this year, one for ”Best Latin” and the “Video for Good” awards.

In the end, it was a truly amazing night for all artists and musicians who attended as it allowed for those of the same profession to come together and celebrate each other’s accomplishments in the musical entertainment business.
